What is KAPAC?
The Kentucky Agents Political Action Committee is a state political action committee that supports candidates in Kentucky who serve in Frankfort.

Why have KAPAC?
The law prohibits our association, the Independent Insurance Agents of Kentucky, from making political contributions.  And collectively, we can give to more candidates and have a stronger voice through KAPAC.  Also, keep in mind that campaigns are expensive, we've all heard that more than once.  And political action committees are an important source of campaign funding.

But I don’t want to be involved in politics.   That’s one reason the agency pays dues, to have the association represent us in Frankfort through our paid lobbyists
Well our lobbyist’s do work with legislators, but they cannot do it alone.   In addition, the association is prohibited from making political contributions.

Why does KAPAC ask for my personal contribution, rather than a contribution from the agency I work for?
Many agencies are corporations and corporations are prohibited by law from making political contributions.

Why do I need to give to KAPAC?
The insurance industry is one of the most highly regulated industries in the country.   Actions by state government affect our livelihoods every day.

What types of government actions affect agents?
There are so many it is impossible to mention them all. But in Frankfort, legislators are dealing with changes in workers’ compensation insurance, health insurance and automobile insurance.   In addition, they have made changes to agent licensing laws.

Who does KAPAC contribute to?
KAPAC makes contributions on a non-partisan basis.   They give to candidates who we believe will be open to supporting our point of view.  They also contribute to campaigns to assure we will be able to present the independent agent’s interests and knowledge when it is needed to protect our customers and the independent agent.

InsurPac is the Political Action Committee (PAC) of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA). It was established in 1975 to complement IIABA's legislative program, and has since become the largest property-casualty insurance industry PAC in the country. InsurPac is one of the reasons the Big "I" is routinely rated in Fortune magazine's top-25 list of most successful lobbying groups in Washington, DC.

Lobbying without InsurPac would be like Lavern without Shirley, Batman without Robin or CPC without U. It would be virtually impossible to separate InsurPac from IIABA's lobbying strategy. InsurPac is not a goal unto itself; it's a means to further agent's issues on the Hill.

InsurPac raises funds by asking for voluntary personal contributions from independent agents and brokers throughout the country. By pooling these monies together, InsurPac helps elect candidates and re-elect members of the U.S. Congress who share IIABA's business philosophy.

Why is it important for InsurPac to financially support members of Congress? The reasons are clear. Attention. Access. Foot in the door. While contributions do not buy solutions to legislative debates, they do allow members of IIABA's government affairs team significant face-time with elected officials. Through InsurPac, IIABA is allowed the opportunity to educate these members and develop working relationships with them. Lobbying and a well-funded PAC go hand-in-hand.

"Truthfully, if we didn't have InsurPac, we would be fighting agent battles with both hands tied behind our back," says Robert A. Rusbuldt, IIABA CEO.  Click here for further information on InsurPac
